Creation of NCSC

(information from the old version of the website, the first half of 2014)

Influenced by international networks for scientific cooperation in mountain regions of the world, in particular the efforts of the UNEP project in the Caucasus, the initiative group MAB-6 IG RAS initiated the formation of a scientific cooperation network in the North Caucasus. The first step to take towards this network was the creation of a database containing information about the scientific community – who is who in the study of problems of sustainable development of the North Caucasus.

For this purpose the initiative group sent a brief questionnaire to potential network members and received completed questionnaires from more than 30 respondents from academic organizations and universities of the North Caucasus, Rostov-on-Don and Moscow. The questionnaire contains 18 questions, including, for example, in addition to personal data, information about work and professional interests, also information about current research, opinions about the necessity of databases and exchange of information, the need for joint research and creation of coordinating bodies. All respondents stressed the importance of such a network. Many questionnaires have proposed ways of making it effectively organized and smoothly. In particular, they stressed the necessity of creating an information portal on the Internet, holding of the founding conference of the parties and developing a common work plan.

Those who responded to the questionnaire are geographically represented by Moscow, Rostov-on-Don, Krasnodar, Stavropol, Nalchik, Vladikavkaz, Grozny, Makhachkala, Tskhinvali. A preliminary analysis of the tabular database shows a wide range of scientists and opinions. It is obvious that development and use of databases will help establish an open discussion and information exchange venue, which is now so lacking in the North Caucasus.
